Maureen McGranaghan (Playwright, Tenderness)

Tenderness is a play about a young woman who wakes up to see her one-night stand trying to slip out the door.

Maureen is intrigued by the subtleties and paradoxes of intimacy. She believes that is why, time after time, she has returned to Tenderness. The original scraps of dialogue have long since been revised and edited away.

For Maureen, “the emblematic moment is now when Tabitha observes that sex is less intimate than helping yourself to a glass of milk in someone’s apartment. But the daily intimacy of the latter can seem disposable. Something we can live without – until we’re living without it.”

Maureen is a playwright, poet and novelist. Most recently her poetry chapbook Attached to Earth was published in 2011 by Finishing Line Press.
