BARRINGTON STAGE COMPANY PRESENTS
AWARD-WINNING SINGER/SONGWRITER SUZANNE VEGA
IN CONCERT ON THE BOYD-QUINSON MAINSTAGE
SEPTEMBER 12

(PITTSFIELD, MA) Barrington Stage Company (BSC), the award-winning theatre in Downtown Pittsfield, MA, under the leadership of Artistic Director Julianne Boyd and Managing Director Tristan Wilson, presents award-winning vocalist Suzanne Vega on the Boyd-Quinson Mainstage on September 12 at 8pm.

Suzanne Vega is an American singer/songwriter of rare poetic genius. Her profound insight on the human experience has earned her followers of all ages and walks of life over a nearly 30 year career yielding critical acclaim and hit songs like “Luka,” “Tom’s Diner” and “Marlene On The Wall” among many others. Vega’s performance will include songs from her first new album in seven years – Tales from the Realm of the Queen of Pentacles.

She is widely regarded as one of the most brilliant songwriters of her generation, emerging as a leading figure of the folk-music revival of the early 1980s when, accompanying herself on acoustic guitar, she sang what has been labeled contemporary folk or neo-folk songs of her own creation in Greenwich Village clubs. Since the release of her self-titled, critically acclaimed 1985 debut album, she has given sold-out concerts in many of the world’s best-known halls.

Suzanne Vega is an artist that continues to surprise. In 2011 in New York City she premiered Carson McCullers Talks About Love, an original play written and performed by Ms. Vega with songs she wrote with Tony Award-winner Duncan Sheik (Spring Awakening), a pioneer among singer-songwriters. Suzanne has also embarked on a project to re-imagine her own songbook in a stripped down and intimate manner, creating 4 new thematic albums that were released over the course of 2010-2012 called the Close-Up series.

Ms. Vega continues to tour constantly, playing with artists as diverse as Moby and Bob Dylan. Tales from the Realm of the Queen of Pentacles, was hailed by The Boston Globe as “a marvel of intelligent lyrics and folkish experimental textures.”

About Barrington Stage Company
Barrington Stage Company, a professional award-winning Equity regional theatre located in the heart of the Berkshires, in Pittsfield, MA, was co-founded in 1995 by Artistic Director Julianne Boyd. Barrington Stage’s mission is three-fold: to present top-notch, compelling work; to develop new plays and musicals; and to find fresh, bold ways to bringing new audiences into the theatre—especially young people. Barrington Stage garnered national attention in 2004 when it workshopped, and premiered William Finn and Rachel Sheinkin’s musical hit The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, which later transferred to Broadway, where it won two Tony Awards. In 2009/2010 Barrington Stage produced the world premiere of Mark St. Germain’s Freud’s Last Session, which later moved Off-Broadway and played for two years. St. Germain’s Becoming Dr. Ruth (which premiered at BSC as Dr. Ruth, All the Way in 2012) played Off-Broadway at the Westside Theatre in fall 2013. Barrington Stage was voted “Best Live Theatre” by The Berkshire Eagle readers in 2011 and 2012 and was named “Best Theatre Company” in Metroland’s Best of the Capital Region 2009-2012.
