Preface: Our intern housing is great. Especially my roommates. It’s so interesting to me how quickly people seem to recreate a familial home base no matter where we are. Plus, as Tristan Wilson, our Director of Production, said in a recent intern workshop, we’ll all probably get to work together again. I’m so looking forward to that; it’ll be so great to work with people who knew you early on in your development as an artist. Ironically, the meet and greet for the Art cast and creative team is today, but instead of art dividing, as it does in Yazmina Reza’s acclaimed piece, it always seems to bring my apartment together.
Okay, now you should know about my morning.
Since we have so much going on at BSC, I decided to wake up early to sort of get a head start. I’m not a morning person. Much like an old computer, I need a good chunk of processing time before I’m ready to work. Therefore, I really shouldn’t operate heavy machinery or, apparently, ovens.
I almost set my kitchen on fire. I was groggy and used a paper towel instead of an oven mitt, and it caught on fire. Then (as if there needed to be more) the microwave decided to go crazy. It turned on while I was getting my baked potato out. My hand was microwaved this morning. If my hand turns green, you know why.
So now you have a backstage pass to the inner workings of intern life. All of my roommates were awake (or were after I screamed, at least), and sent me off with hopes that my day would get better. And it already has. Life is good. Unexpectedly dangerous at times, but good.
On that same note, KidsAct! starts Monday! I’m really excited, but there’s loads to do so I need to sign off now. Have a great (kitchen-attack free) day!
PS) I saw the first run through of the first act of Into the Woods the other day! Better get your tickets now, it’s going to be absolutely wonderful! (Although I’m going to stop singing “Giants in the Sky” when I wake up, because that’s definitely what I was singing this morning… who knows if there’s a connection or not.)
