The June M. Guertin Archives at Barrington Stage

The June M. Guertin Archives were established in 2018 to collect and preserve records of historical and institutional significance to Barrington Stage Company. Housed at the Wolfson Theatre Center, our collection includes audio and video recordings, photographs, programs, promotional materials, scripts, set and costume renderings and other records from every year since Barrington Stage Company’s founding in 1995.

Barrington Stage Company’s archives are named for Founding Artistic Director Julie Boyd’s sister, a historian and lover of theatre in her own right. The June M. Guertin Archives are made possible through annual funding from generous donors.

The Collection

In addition to more traditional archival records like season posters and show programs, we have some fun and unexpected items in our collection including:

(L): The helmet worn by Clifton Guterman (Leaf Coneybear) in BSC’s 2008 remount of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. (R): When BSC staged the World Premiere of this show in 2004, the role was played by Jesse Tyler Ferguson (ABC’s Modern Family). He continued this role in the Broadway premiere of Spelling Bee the following year with the addition of a yellow helmet.

the space in the early 2000s before BSC purchased the property in 2005.

Meet the Archivist

A beautiful woman with voluminous brown curly hair smiles for the camera.

Cassandra (Cassie) Peltier-Polston joined the BSC staff as archivist in May 2024.

Thanks to the freedom of a homeschool education, Cassie grew up exploring the many libraries, museums, farms, forests, rivers, and craft stores of Berkshire County and southern Vermont. Much of Cassie’s childhood was spent at the Milne Public Library in Williamstown, MA where she volunteered as a “Junior Librarian” and led numerous craft workshops before working as a circulation clerk for over nine years. As a teenager Cassie volunteered with several local organizations including the Williamstown Historical Museum, Images Cinema, the ABC clothing sale, and the Williamstown Youth Center.

Over the years Cassie has engaged with the performing arts by adapting short stories into plays (performed with friends on her parents’ front porch); teaching Irish Step Dance; acting, costuming, building sets and props, stage managing, and co-directing with Starlight Stage Youth Theatre; singing, dancing, and choreographing with Inish at Williams College; volunteering and performing with Minerva Arts Center; performing with the New York Celtic Dancers at Jacob’s Pillow; and dancing and serving on the board of directors for the Duffy Academy in Hadley, MA.

Cassie graduated magna cum laude from Mount Holyoke College in 2018 where she completed two internships at the Mount Holyoke College Art Museum and affiliated Joseph Allen Skinner Museum practicing museum education, collection care, NAGPRA repatriation, curation, and exhibit installation. She was invited back after graduation to assist the collection manager with a full inventory and rehousing of the museum collection.

Cassie served from 2018 to 2020 as Executive Director of the Susan B. Anthony Birthplace Museum overseeing professional development and operations, designing educational resources and programming, mounting exhibits, and coordinating events to commemorate the U.S. Women’s Suffrage Centennial.

In May 2024 Cassie received her Master’s in Archives Management and in December 2024 completed her MA in History through Simmons University, where she has focused on decolonizing methodologies in Libraries, Archives, and Museums. Cassie lives locally with her husband, two cats, and extensive collections of teas and craft supplies.
