Sara Cooper (Playwright, Things I Left On Long Island)

Things I Left On Long Island is a play about three generations of women trying to find a deeper connection to each other and family.

This play is actually a 10-minute version of a full length play by the same title. Sara won a 2012 grant from Queens Council on the Arts for the work-in-progress.

Sara found the inspiration for this play after doing some research into the history of her very non-Jewish last name. This semi-autobiographical play compares the older generations that grew up Jewish in Brooklyn and the younger generation growing up Jewish in a very non-Jewish town on Long Island. Being in the same family but growing up with very different perspectives on the world created a challenge to Sara’s relationship and also  relationships of the women in this play.
