Full Name: Gretchen Egolf
Character: Beatrice
Hometown: Lancaster, PA
Something you are really good at: um…acting, I hope?
Favorite Pre/Post-Show Meal: Is wine a meal? that’s pre-show of course…hee
Pre-Show ritual: stretch and warm up voice, cup of tea, brush teeth, try to spy on the audience for a minute just before performing – to see who Iʼm about to go on the ride with!
First experience with Shakespeare: 7th grade English class – Romeo and Juliet
What preparation did you do for your role in Much Ado: Researched the play – read about other productions, researched the period and Italy, watched Katharine Hepburn and Anna Magnani
Worst Flubbed Line/Missed/Onstage Mishap: My head hit the edge of the stage once and I got a mild concussion – spent the rest of the play not being able to stop giggling (then went to the emergency room).
Craziest Audition Story: Too many to choose! Recently a producer was eating tortilla chips during my audition. I kept adding pauses into my performance so that he would suddenly crunch loudly and hopefully feel embarrassed. My pathetic small revenge…
At a dinner party, who would be your three dream guests? Tennessee Williams, Edna St. Vincent Millay, and a designated driver to get them home….probably G.B. Shaw, who was a teetotaler!
Gretchen Egolf is also an Associate Artist at BSC. Read more about Gretchen.
