My name is Cortney, I’m the intern here in the education department. This summer, I’ll be providing a first-hand account of the various programs Barrington Stage Company offers, including KidsAct!, Youth Theatre, and the Professional Internship Program.
I am here under the Professional Internship Program, so my experiences with that will definitely be the most personal. I’ve been here in Pittsfield for four days now, and I’ve loved every minute of it! I’m from a much faster-paced area, and it’s been so nice to just slow down.
Not to say that we aren’t busy. There’s always something to be done or wonderful people to be met or fantastic art to witness. Last night I was fortunate enough to seeThe Whipping Man by Matthew Lopez at Stage 2 here at BSC. Wow! Just fantastic. It made me so proud to be working here. I also had a chance to attend the Meet-and-Greet with the Sweeney Todd cast and production team. The rehearsal process has just begun and the excitement was palpable; I was thrilled myself! It was a mini-education for me, just to be able to watch the design presentations, to hear visions for the production and then see how they were translated into the various designs.
You know that feeling you had when, as a kid, you were allowed to sit at the “grown-ups table” instead of at the kiddie section? That’s how you feel every day as an intern here. I’m so excited to spend the rest of my summer here, and to absorb as much as I can from the incredible people working here. And, of course, you’ll get to hear all about it!
