Barrington Stage Company celebrates
Berkshire women of color with
ENUF!
August 18 and 19 at the St. Germain Stage
(PITTSFIELD, MA) Barrington Stage Company’s summer of new theatrical works includes the premiere of Enuf! based on the true life stories of 12 young Pittsfield women. Inspired by the OBIE-winning play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf! by Ntozake Shange, Enuf! gives focus to the experience of young women of color living in the Berkshires.
Enuf! will be presented for two performances Sunday, August 18 and Monday, August 19 at 7pm at the St. Germain Stage at the Sydelle and Lee Blatt Performing Arts Center, 36 Linden Street, Pittsfield. Tickets are $15 and will benefit BSC’s Education programs. For tickets call 413-236-8888 or purchase online at www.barringtonstageco.org.
Developed by playwright Yvette “Jamuna” Sirker and Spoken Word Artist and poet Lady Nakeida Bethel-Smith, in collaboration with the 12 students, Enuf! is the culmination of a 6-month theater program that brought Shirley Edgerton’s Rights of Passage and Empowerment Program (ROPE) onto BSC’s campus.
ROPE’s mission is to engage young women of color in art-based educational activities to promote positive youth development and leadership skills. For six months, Jamuna and Nakeida, along with dancer/choreographer Marla Robertson, met weekly with the ROPE girls to teach acting, dance and creative writing while guiding the girls in the process of turning their life stories into a play.
Performed by the ROPE girls, Enuf! will be directed by Dawn Monique Williams, with live music by Musical Director Jerome Edgerton.
Enuf! is sponsored by: The Women’s Fund of Western Mass, Dr. Art and Terry Wasser, and MM & D, LLC.
