BARRINGTON STAGE COMPANY presents
AN ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE,
Arthur Miller’s adaptation of the classic Henrik Ibsen play
Directed by Julianne Boyd
October 2-19 Boyd-Quinson Mainstage

(PITTSFIELD, MA) Barrington Stage Company (BSC), the award-winning theatre in Downtown Pittsfield, MA, under the leadership of Artistic Director Julianne Boyd and Managing Director Tristan Wilson, presents An Enemy of the People, Arthur Miller’s adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s play, directed by Julianne Boyd from October 2 through 19 on the Boyd-Quinson Mainstage. The press opening is Sunday, October 5 at 3pm.

Artistic Director Julianne Boyd takes on her third Arthur Miller play at Barrington Stage – The Crucible in 2010 and All My Sons in 2012 were acclaimed by critics and audiences alike.

This powerful drama explores the impact of polluted waters in a small town and the consequences of uncovering the truth. Follow the story of one man’s brave struggle to do the right thing in the face of extreme social intolerance. Master playwright Arthur Miller adapted Ibsen’s classic play in response to the political climate fostered by McCarthyism in 1950, but the play is still shockingly relevant today.

“I don’t know of any other playwright who can so vividly express the theme of one man’s responsibility to society versus the moral majority,” said Artistic Director Julianne Boyd. “This theme combined with the discussion of a town dealing with polluted waters made An Enemy of the People a natural choice for BSC to produce this fall.”

Barrington Stage’s cast of An Enemy of the People features Glenn Barrett (Morten Kiil), Noah Bailey (Morten), Rosalind Cramer (2nd Citizen), Scott Drummond (Hovstad), Steve Hendrickson (Tom Stockmann), Christopher Hirsh (Billing), Patrick Husted (Peter Stockmann), Joey LaBrasca (Ejlif), Brian Litscher (3rd Citizen), Tony Pallone (Drunk), Dee Nelson (Catherine Stockmann), Don Paul Shannon (Capt. Horster), Katya Stepanov (Petra Stockmann), and Jack Wetherall (Aslaksen).

The design team include David Barber (set), Sara Jean Tosetti (costumes), Scott Pinkney (lighting), and Brad Berridge (sound).  Marjorie Ann Wood is production stage manager.

About Barrington Stage Company
Barrington Stage Company, a professional award-winning Equity regional theatre located in the heart of the Berkshires, in Pittsfield, MA, was co-founded in 1995 by Artistic Director Julianne Boyd. Barrington Stage’s mission is three-fold: to present top-notch, compelling work; to develop new plays and musicals; and to find fresh, bold ways to bringing new audiences into the theatre—especially young people. Barrington Stage garnered national attention in 2004 when it workshopped, and premiered William Finn and Rachel Sheinkin’s musical hit The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, which later transferred to Broadway, where it won two Tony Awards. In 2009/2010 Barrington Stage produced the world premiere of Mark St. Germain’s Freud’s Last Session, which later moved Off-Broadway and played for two years. St. Germain’s Becoming Dr. Ruth (which premiered at BSC as Dr. Ruth, All the Way in 2012) played Off-Broadway at the Westside Theatre in fall 2013. Barrington Stage was voted “Best Live Theatre” by The Berkshire Eagle readers in 2011 and 2012 and was named “Best Theatre Company” in Metroland’s Best of the Capital Region 2009-2012.
