8th Annual New Play Festival part of
Pittsfield’s 10X10 Upstreet Arts Festival

(Pittsfield, MA) January 4, 2018 — Barrington Stage Company (BSC), the award-winning theatre in Downtown Pittsfield, MA, under the leadership of Artistic Director Julianne Boyd, announces the 10-minute plays for the Eighth Annual 10X10 New Play Festival, part of the 2019 10X10 Upstreet Arts Festival.

Due to popular demand, a fourth week of performances have been added. Performances of BSC’s 10X10 New Play Festival are February 14 – March 10, 2019 at BSC’s St. Germain Stage, located at the Sydelle and Lee Blatt Performing Arts Center, 36 Linden Street. Tickets ($35-$25) on sale now. The Press Opening will be Sunday, February 17 at 3:00pm.

The 10X10 Upstreet Arts Festival returns to downtown Pittsfield for the eighth year and features music, theatre, dance, film, visual art, spoken word, comedy and more, including BSC’s 10X10 New Play Festival.

Directors for the 10X10 New Play Festival are BSC Artistic Director Julianne Boyd and returning for his third year, Matthew Penn (BSC’s Typhoid Mary). An Emmy-nominated director (Law & Order), Penn is a Co-Artistic Director of the Berkshire Playwrights Lab in Great Barrington.

BSC’s 2019 10X10 New Play Festival:

Double Entendre by L.H. Grant, directed by Julianne Boyd. Did he say what she thinks he said  – and what exactly did she just say? This is all so confusing.

172 Push-Ups by Scott Mullen, directed by Matthew Penn. Two veterans – one an old man, one a young woman – meet outside a bus station on a snowy night. There they discover their differences – and their similarities.

Charlottesville by Suzanne Bradbeer, directed by Julianne Boyd. Dani loves her children, she really does. But sometimes you just want to fish by the lake and let the world spin without you. Unfortunately, the world – and your children – may have other ideas.

Organic Seed by Patrick Gabridge, directed by Matthew Penn. Conflict erupts at the farmer’s market between a young woman farmer and an older conventional farmer as they battle for customers.

Pipeline by Michael Brady, directed by Julianne Boyd. Three activists prepare to guard the approach to a forest targeted for a controversial pipeline. When dawn comes with an unexpected encounter, each must decide – take a stand or step aside.

Twas the Day After Xmas by Steven Korbar, directed by Matthew Penn. On December 26, a world-class cheapskate tries to return his artificial Christmas tree to a department store.

Kid Stuff by Chris Shaw Swanson, directed by Matthew Penn. When their son’s school art project provokes an unexpected reaction, two parents are forced to examine the boundaries of social responsibility and creative expression.

The Chapel Play by Lila Rose Kaplan, directed by Julianne Boyd. Two strangers collide in a small Chapel. After a prickly start, they help each other in the most surprising of ways.

Eddie and Edna by Donald Loftus, directed by Matthew Penn. Sometimes it becomes a struggle to sort out the real from the imagined. Sometimes, even those closest cannot help.

Cold Feet by Brad Sytsma, directed by Julianne Boyd. Gathering loved ones together to celebrate the joining of two lives can get complicated, especially when everything seems to be going very wrong.

Casting will be announced at a later date.

The creative team includes set design/technical direction by Joseph Martin, lighting design by Derek Keifer, costume coordination by Trinity Melissa, props by Jess Sovronsky and sound design by Alexander SovronskyRenee Lutz is the production stage manager. Leila Teitelman is the 10X10 New Play Festival Line Producer.

Tickets to the 10X10 New Play Festival are on sale now. Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm, with matinees Saturday and Sunday at 3:00pm. Tickets are $30 Thursday evenings and Saturday/Sunday matinees, $35 Friday and Saturday evenings. Low-priced preview tickets are $25 on February 14 and 15 at 7:30pm. Reserved seating.
