YANKEE MAGAZINE BEST OF NEW ENGLAND 2015 ISSUE
AWARDS BARRINGTON STAGE COMPANY
“BEST SUMMER THEATRE”

(PITTSFIELD, MA)  Barrington Stage Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Julianne Boyd and Managing Director Tristan Wilson, is proud to announce that Yankee Magazine selected Barrington Stage Company as the Best Summer Theatre in their “Best of New England” May/June 2015 issue.

“Barrington Stage is thrilled with this honor.  Yankee Magazine’s readership reaches well beyond New England. It is our hope that this award will attract more tourists to the Berkshires, to attend our theatre and other performing arts organizations,” said Artistic Director Julianne Boyd.

Yankee Magazine’s May/June 2015 Travel Guide debuts the “Best of New England” in a special issue, available on newsstands now, which features the “Best of New England — Editors’ Choice 2015” winners, and includes the region’s best attractions, food & dining, lodging, and bargains. A comprehensive guide to travel in the region it includes 90 local foodie destinations, the best summer bargains, and 120 of the best fairs, festivals and events around New England.

Here’s what the Editors had to say about Barrington Stage being BEST SUMMER THEATRE: “With a 520-seat renovated main stage (a former vaudeville hall) and a modest 99-seat contemporary theatre, Barrington offers venues for splashy musicals as well as intimate plays. The company has had a long commitment to developing new musical theatre and typically premieres at least two musicals each summer season.”

About Barrington Stage Company
Barrington Stage Company, a professional award-winning Equity regional theatre located in the heart of the Berkshires, in Pittsfield, MA, was co-founded in 1995 by Artistic Director Julianne Boyd. Barrington Stage’s mission is three-fold: to present top-notch, compelling work; to develop new plays and musicals; and to find fresh, bold ways to bringing new audiences into the theatre—especially young people.  Barrington Stage garnered national attention in 2004 when it premiered William Finn and Rachel Sheinkin’s musical hit The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, which later transferred to Broadway, where it won two Tony Awards. In 2009/2010 Barrington Stage produced the world premiere of Mark St. Germain’s Freud’s Last Session, which later moved Off-Broadway and played for two years. St. Germain’s Becoming Dr. Ruth (which premiered at BSC as Dr. Ruth, All the Way in 2012) played Off-Broadway at the Westside Theatre in fall 2013. BSC’s all-time record-breaking musical, On the Town, originally presented in 2013, is currently on Broadway with BSC as a co-producer. Barrington Stage has been voted “Best Live Theatre” by The Berkshire Eagle, named “Best Theatre Company” in Metroland’s Best of the Capital Region, and “Best Summer Theatre” by Yankee Magazine.
