Inspired by Jerome Robbins’ ballet “Fancy Free,” On the Town includes such memorable musical numbers as “New York, New York,” “Lonely Town” and the hilarious “I Can Cook Too” as well as the famed Coney Island Ballet. The Critics Rave about On the Town!
In the New York Times: “…one of those rare revivals that remind us what a hit show from long ago was originally all about…You…will surely feel lucky to be in their company…The production runs only through July 13, giving it the mayfly-like life span of the romances it portrays. Normally, I wouldn’t tell citizens of the five boroughs to drive three hours to be told that New York is a helluva town. But this enchanted vision of a city that was — and of course never was — is worth catching before it evaporates.” Read the full New York Times rave review now.
In The Wall Street Journal: “I’m thrilled to report that Barrington Stage is putting on a production directed by John Rando (“All in the Timing”) that is more than exciting enough to make you scratch your head in puzzlement. How could so exhilarating a musical have slipped through the cracks?…The members of his youthful cast…collectively slam it out of the park.” Read the full Wall Street Journal review now.
